Arriving in New York in 1986, Carlos began restoring old homes, but soon returned to his passion for cabinet and furniture making.  He worked with New York’s most renowned architects and interior designers including Parish Hadley, Robert Stern and Sam Lopata, as well as many others.

His closest relationships were with two of New York’s top interior designers – Juan Montoya and Ruben de Sacevedra.  Karl Springer also sought him out to create accessories and furniture for his New York showroom.  His reputation as an innovative designer and expert craftsman led to commissioned projects for private clients including Paloma Picasso and John McEnroe.

In 1998, he founded CQ Design Studio where he employed his vast experience in woodworking to create custom designed cabinets and furniture utilizing superior craftsmanship.  In 2005, he expanded his design portfolio to include unique pivot hinges that are now marketed by pivot-etc. More recently, he expanded his shop to include metal working. He continues to work with top designers and architects from all over the world.
